Commit Your Plans to the Lord – Devotional

Let’s be honest—most of us love making plans. We map out our days, dream up big goals, and try to figure out every little detail. It feels good to have a plan, doesn’t it?

But sometimes, even our best-laid plans fall apart. The job doesn’t come through. The timing is off. The door we thought would open stays tightly shut. That’s when Proverbs 16:3 reminds us: “Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.”

So what does it mean to “commit” your plans to God? It’s not just saying a quick prayer and moving on. It’s saying, “God, here’s what I’m thinking… but I want what You want more than what I want.” It’s being willing to let God lead, even if it means changing direction.

Think of it like this: you’ve got a backpack full of plans. Instead of carrying it around on your own, God says, “Let Me carry that for you. I know where we’re going.” When we hand it over to Him, we’re no longer walking alone—or in the dark.

And here’s the promise: when we commit our ways to Him, our plans will be established—made solid, guided, and blessed in the way He knows is best.

Steps Practical

  • Start your day with prayer. Before jumping into your to-do list, ask God to guide your steps.
  • Write it down. What are you working on or planning right now? Put it on paper—and then pray over it.
  • Let go of control. If something’s not working out, ask God if He’s leading you in a different direction

Prayer

God, I’ve got a lot on my mind and heart. Some plans I’m excited about… and some I’m not sure about. Help me to trust You with all of it. Lead me, guide me, and make my steps firm as I walk with You. I commit my plans to You today. Amen.
